Syfy Renews 12 Monkeys for Third Season

Syfy has renewed its critically acclaimed drama series 12 Monkeys for a 10-episode Season 3 order, with new episodes expected to air in 2017.

From Universal Cable Productions, 12 MONKEYS is co-created by Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett (“Nikita”) and is based on the 1995 Oscar® nominated and Golden Globe-winning film of the same name. Matalas serves as the showrunner and executive producer. Charles Roven (The Dark Knight trilogy, “Suicide Squad”) who produced the original film, and Richard Suckle (“Suicide Squad”, “American Hustle”) also serve as executive producers. Season 2 of the series currently airs on Monday nights at 9/8 c on Syfy.

“In two short seasons, 12 MONKEYS has become a cult favorite series,” said Chris Mc Cumber, President, Entertainment Networks. “Terry and the cast and crew have brought to life a rich world not confined by boundaries of time, with multi-dimensional characters whose motivations for saving the world are deeply personal and intensely relatable. It’s exactly the type of smart, on-the-edge-of-your-seat entertainment we want to bring to Syfy viewers.”

“This season of 12 MONKEYS has proven to be a break through. From its epic storytelling to its grand aesthetic, Terry and the cast and crew have invested boundless energy and passion, and it showed,” said Jeff Wachtel, Chief Content Officer, NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment and President, Universal Cable Productions. “New legions of fans will discover what devoted viewers already know: it’s one of the best shows on television!”

In its second season, the epic time travel drama continued to have critics raving. EW.com declared, “12 MONKEYS is great television,” TV Guide says “CHEERS to Syfy’s exhilarating 12 MONKEYS for transforming a cult movie into an even trippier series,” and Vox.com noted, “12 MONKEYS pushes storytelling boundaries…”
