ABC has released the Official Synopsis of Designated Survivor episode “The Ninth Seat” (1.17), that will be aired on Wednesday, April 19 at 10:00-11:00 PM.

A NEW LEAD SENDS FBI AGENT HANNAH WELLS INTO THE HEART OF THE CONSPIRACY
As President Kirkman struggles to put together a new Supreme Court, FBI Agent Hannah Wells goes undercover and discovers much more than she ever could have imagined. Meanwhile, Seth Wright has to contend with journalist Abe Leonard, who returns from the Middle East with an explosive story.
“Designated Survivor” stars Kiefer Sutherland as Tom Kirkman, Natascha McElhone as Alex Kirkman, Adan Canto as Aaron Shore, Italia Ricci as Emily Rhodes, LaMonica Garrett as Mike Ritter with Kal Penn as Seth Wright and Maggie Q as Hannah Wells.
Guest starring are Virginia Madsen as Congresswoman Kimble Hookstraten, Mark Deklin as Senator Jack Bowman and Rob Morrow as Abe Leonard.

In Designated Survivor, Kiefer Sutherland stars as Tom Kirkman, a lower-level cabinet member who is suddenly appointed President of the United States after a catastrophic attack on the US Capitol during the State of the Union.
